How to Knit a Simple Striped Scarf

What You Will Need

Materials

  • 2 x 100g balls of Double Knitting, Superwash or Cosy Wool yarn by Lincraft
  • Colour 1
  • Colour 2

Alternative Yarns

This scarf can be made using any similar 8ply yarn. Choose a yarn with a comfortable handle and good stitch definition to create an even rib pattern.

Pattern note: The scarf is worked entirely in K1, P1 rib. Changing colours every two rows creates the simple striped effect.

Construction Overview

The scarf is created in three simple stages:

  1. Cast on the required stitches.
  2. Work K1, P1 rib while alternating colours.
  3. Cast off in rib and finish the ends.

Cast On

  1. Using 4mm knitting needles, cast on 40 stitches.

Work the Stripes

  1. Using Colour 1, work K1, P1 rib across the row.
  2. Continue in K1, P1 rib for 2 rows.
  3. Change to Colour 2.
  4. Work K1, P1 rib for 2 rows.
  5. Continue alternating colours every 2 rows.

Cast Off
