How to Crochet the Circular Rug

Alternative Yarns
The original pattern uses Lincraft T-shirt Yarn. When choosing an alternative yarn, select a very bulky yarn that creates a firm, durable fabric suitable for a floor rug when worked with a 6.00mm crochet hook.
Suitable Yarn Types
- T-shirt yarn – the closest substitute for the original and ideal for a dense, substantial rug.
- Recycled cotton tube yarn – provides structure and durability with a contemporary finish.
- Fabric yarn – suitable for creating a thick, textured floor rug.
- Super-chunky cotton blend – may work well provided the finished fabric is firm enough for floor use.
Customisation Ideas
- Use a solid neutral colour for a minimalist floor rug.
- Alternate colours between rounds to create concentric stripes.
- Use variegated T-shirt yarn for changing colour effects without manual yarn changes.
- Create a smaller rug by fastening off earlier once the desired diameter is reached.
- Create a larger rug by continuing the established increase pattern with additional yarn.
To retain the circular shape, continue increasing 6 sts evenly every round as directed. If the edges begin to curl, follow the original pattern instruction to increase more frequently in each round.
Care Instructions
Follow the washing and care instructions provided on the ball band of the yarn used.
- Secure all yarn ends before use or washing.
- Spot clean where practical, particularly for very bulky fabric-style yarns.
- Use a gentle wash only if permitted by the yarn manufacturer.
- Avoid excessive heat that may shrink or distort cotton or recycled fibres.
- Reshape the rug while damp.
- Lay flat to dry completely to help maintain the circular shape.
