Alternative Yarns

When substituting Lincraft Spiral, choose a yarn that can achieve the pattern tension of 21.5 sts and 38 rows to 10cm over garter st, using 4.00mm needles.

Suitable alternatives may include smooth or softly variegated yarns with enough body to hold the mitred cushion shape. A self-striping or colour-changing yarn can recreate the gradual colour transitions shown in the original project.

Important: Match the specified tension and finished fabric rather than relying only on the yarn weight description. Work a tension swatch before beginning, as a substitute yarn may alter the finished dimensions, drape and total yarn quantity required.

Customisation Ideas

  • Use a self-striping yarn to emphasise the mitred construction and diagonal colour changes.
  • Work each cushion panel in a different colourway for a contrasting front and back.
  • Use a solid-colour yarn for a more subtle look that highlights the garter stitch texture.
  • Join the seams in a contrasting yarn to create a decorative edge.
  • Make coordinating cushions in several colourways for a matching home décor set.

Care Instructions

Follow the care instructions provided on the yarn label used for the project. Remove the cushion insert before washing the knitted cover where practical.

Wash gently using a method suitable for the selected fibre and reshape while damp. Dry flat where recommended to help maintain the mitred shape and garter stitch texture. Reinsert the cushion only when the knitted cover is completely dry.
