Using 5.50mm hook and holding two ends of M together, ch21.
- Round 1: 2htr into the second chain from the hook, htr into the front post of the next 18ch, 4htr into the final stitch, rotate work and htr into the opposite side of the next 18ch, 2htr into the final chain and sl st to close the round ... 44 htr

Begin Working Sides
- Round 1: Ch1, htr into the front post only in each st in the round, sl st to close the round.
- Round 2: Ch1, htr into each st in the round, Sl st to the first chain in the round close.
Repeat round 2 until base measures 10cm from where you finished increasing, cut yarn and fasten off.
Mesh Stitch
Using 5.50mm and holding two ends of C1 together, ins hook into any htr around the top of the base:
- Round 1: Ch5 (Counts as 1tr and 2ch), *skip 2 sts and tr into the third, ch2, repeat from * in the round, slip st into the 3ch made at the beg to close ... 46 tr made.
- Round 2: Ch5 (Counts as 1tr and 2ch), *tr into the next ch2 space, ch2, repeat from * in the round, slip st into the 3ch made at the beg to close.
Repeat round 2 until the bag measures, 18cm from the end of the sides of the base.
Next Round: Ch1 and dc into each ch in the round, sl st to close.
Repeat the above row twice more, cut yarn and fasten off.
Handles
Lay bag flat so the centre chain of the oval is laying horizontally. Using st markers, mark the st 8cm from each edge on both sides, this is where your handles will start and end.
Using 5.50mm hook and C1, ins hook into one of the sts with a marker, ch1 and dc into the same st, dc into the next 7 sts working towards the centre of the bag, turn.
Work even in rows, dc into each stitch until the strap measures 40cm from the beg, cut yarn and fasten off. Using a length of the same yarn, sew the strap into place marked by the other marker, taking care not to twist the strap.
Repeat for the other side.
Finishing
Sew in all ends. Starch the base, if you prefer a stiffer bag.
