Construction Overview

The scarf is worked in three stages:

Cast On and Edge

Work the Herringbone Pattern

Row 1 (Right Side)

  1. Knit 2 stitches.
  2. Slip 1 stitch knitwise.
  3. Knit 1 stitch.
  4. Insert the left needle into the slipped stitch.
  5. Lift the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch and back onto the left needle.
  6. Insert the right needle into the slipped stitch from right to left.
  7. Knit the slipped stitch and remove it from the needle.
  8. Repeat from the slipped stitch instruction until the last stitch.
  9. Knit the final stitch.

Row 2 (Wrong Side)

  1. Knit 1 stitch.
  2. Purl 1 stitch.
  3. Purl 2 stitches together but leave stitches on the needle.
  4. Purl the first stitch again.
  5. Drop both stitches from the left needle.
  6. Repeat across the row.
  7. Knit the final stitch.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until the scarf measures approximately 170cm from the beginning, ending with a wrong side row.

Cast Off

  1. Work the next row on the right side.
  2. Knit 2 stitches.
  3. Pass the first stitch over the second stitch.
  4. Repeat across the row.
  5. Knit the final stitch.
  6. Bind one stitch off.
  7. Cut yarn and pull through the remaining stitch.

Finishing

  1. Weave in all loose ends.
  2. Gently stretch the scarf into shape.

Add the Fringing

  1. Using Contrast Colour yarn, cut equal lengths for the fringe.
  2. Fold three strands together to create one fringe group.
  3. Fold the strands in half to create a loop.
  4. Insert the crochet hook from the back of the scarf edge.
  5. Draw the loop through an edge stitch.
  6. Pull the yarn ends through the loop to secure.
  7. Repeat on every alternate stitch along the scarf edge.
  8. Repeat the process on the opposite end.
