This Scarf & Beanie Bundle is an easy knit project designed for all ages, with sizes available for 3–6 years, 7–teen and adult.
The beanies are knitted flat and joined with a seam, making them a quick and enjoyable project for beginner knitters. The scarves are also worked in a simple K1/P1 rib stitch, with fun colour changes to create matching accessories for yourself, your mini-me, or your bestie.

Technique Explanation
K1/P1 Rib Stitch
Knit one stitch, then purl one stitch repeatedly across the row. This creates a stretchy rib pattern ideal for scarves and hat edges.
K2tog Through Back Loop (K2tog tbl)
Insert the needle through the back loops of two stitches together and knit them as one stitch. This creates a neat decrease used when shaping the crown of the beanie.
Full Knitting Instructions
Five-Stripe Beanie
Using the main colour and 10mm straight needles, cast on:
- 45 stitches (3–6 years)
- 49 stitches (7–teen)
- 53 stitches (adult)
Row 1: (right side) [K1, P1] to last stitch, K1.
Row 2: [P1, K1] to last stitch, P1.
For sizes M and L, repeat Rows 1 and 2.
Work five stripe rows, changing colour every row:
- Change colour. Work [K1, P1] rib to last stitch, K1.
- Change colour. Work [P1, K1] rib to last stitch, P1.
Return to the main colour and continue Rows 1 and 2 until the beanie measures:
- 15cm for 3–6 years
- 17cm for 7–teen
- 19cm for adult
Crown Shaping
Work the following shaping:
- [K2tog tbl, P2tog] to last stitch, K1.
- [P1, K1] to last stitch, P1.
- [K1, P1] to last stitch, K1.
- [K2tog tbl] to last stitch, K1.
One-Stripe Beanie
Follow the same instructions as the Five-Stripe Beanie, replacing the five stripe colour changes with one contrast colour stripe.
Five-Stripe Scarf
With main colour, cast on 26 stitches.
- Rows 1–12: K1/P1 rib.
- Rows 13–17: Change colours and work five stripe rows.
- Rows 18–98: Return to main colour and continue K1/P1 rib.
- Rows 99–103: Work stripe colours in reverse order.
- Rows 104–116: Return to main colour and continue K1/P1 rib.
Cast off in K1/P1 rib stitch.
Two-Stripe Scarf
Cast on:
- 8 stitches (3–6 years)
- 12 stitches (7–teen)
- 16 stitches (adult)
Work K1/P1 rib, changing colour every two rows.
Repeat Rows 1–4 for:
- 110 rows (3–6 years)
- 120 rows (7–teen)
- 130 rows (adult)
Cast off in K1/P1 rib stitch.
Colour Block Scarf
Using 15mm needles, cast on:
- 9 stitches (7–teen)
- 13 stitches (adult)
Work K1/P1 rib using colour blocks:
- Beginning colour section
- Contrast colour middle section
- Return to beginning colour section
Cast off in K1/P1 rib stitch.
Finishing
- Cut yarn leaving enough length to sew seams.
- Thread yarn through remaining live stitches.
- Draw up stitches and secure.
- Sew side seam of beanie.
- Weave all loose ends neatly into stitch edges.
Making Pompoms
- Use 8cm rings from a Sullivans PomPom Maker.
- Cut lengths of yarn using leftover contrast colours or one solid colour.
- Wind yarn evenly around the rings until full.
- Cut around the outside edge.
- Tie tightly through the centre.
- Trim and shape the pompom.
