FINISHING
Stuff Beak lightly. Sew Beak to centre of Face between rounds 8 and 13. Flatten Head Feathers and whip stitch end closed. Sew centrally to top of Head. Stuff Tail and sew to bottom rear of Body between rounds 38 and 47. Flatten Wings. A natural concave will form in the top half of Wing. Sew to sides of Body, angled slightly down with the hollow against the Body, between rounds 26 and 39. Stuff the concave of Wing lightly as you go. Do not sew down the Wing tip. Sew Feet with 2 toes facing forward to front bottom of Body between rounds 40 and 50.
Optional: To straighten Claws on Feet, block by spraying with water and stand Galah on a towel in the sun to dry. Pin Claws flat if necessary.
Sew in all ends.
Alternative Yarns
The original pattern uses Lincraft DK 8ply yarn. When choosing an alternative, select an 8ply or equivalent yarn that creates a firm fabric when worked with a 3.00mm crochet hook, or adjust the hook size so that no holes appear through which stuffing may show.
Suitable Yarn Types
- 8ply acrylic yarn – durable, easy-care and available in suitable pink, white and grey shades.
- 8ply cotton yarn – creates a firmer fabric with clear stitch definition.
- 8ply cotton-acrylic blend – combines structure with a softer feel and easier care.
- 8ply wool blend – creates a softer amigurumi with a warmer natural finish.
- Machine-washable 8ply yarn – a practical option where easier care is preferred.
Customisation Ideas
- Adjust the pink shade from pale blush to deeper galah pink while retaining the original colour placement.
- Use a darker grey for the wings, tail, feet and beak for stronger contrast.
- Embroider the eyes instead of using safety eyes or buttons where appropriate.
- Add subtle embroidered feather details to the wings after assembly.
- Create a matching pair using slightly different pink and grey colour combinations.
To retain the original proportions and assembly positions, keep all stitch counts, round counts and placement instructions unchanged when making decorative customisations.
Care Instructions
Follow the washing and care instructions provided on the ball band of the yarn used.
- Ensure the beak, head feathers, wings, tail and feet are securely attached before use.
- Check safety eyes or buttons regularly to ensure they remain firmly attached.
- Use gentle washing appropriate for the selected yarn and stuffing.
- Avoid excessive heat that may damage synthetic yarn, stuffing or safety eyes.
- Gently reshape the galah and claws after washing.
- Allow the amigurumi to dry completely before storing or using again.
