Alternative Yarns

When substituting Lincraft Babysoft 8ply, choose a soft 8ply yarn that can achieve the pattern tension of 22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 4.00mm needles.

Suitable alternatives may include soft baby acrylic, merino, wool blends or other smooth yarns with enough elasticity to maintain the ribbed structure and crown shaping.

Important: Match the specified tension and finished fabric rather than relying only on yarn weight labels. Work a tension swatch before beginning, as a substitute yarn may alter the finished fit, stretch and yarn quantity required.

Customisation Ideas

  • Work the beanie in a solid colour for a classic ribbed finish.
  • Use a variegated or self-striping yarn for subtle colour changes.
  • Add a contrasting pom pom to the crown.
  • Omit the pom pom for a simpler oversized beanie.
  • Make coordinating beanies in different sizes for siblings.

Care Instructions

Follow the care instructions provided on the yarn label used for the project. Wash gently using a method suitable for the selected fibre and reshape while damp.

Dry flat where recommended to help maintain the ribbing, crown shaping and overall fit. If a pom pom is added, reshape it gently after washing and check regularly that it remains securely attached.
