Alternative Yarns

When substituting Lincraft Baby 4ply Merino, choose a soft 4ply yarn that can achieve the pattern tension of 28 sts and 36 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 3.25mm needles.

Suitable alternatives may include soft merino, baby wool, wool blends or smooth baby acrylic yarns suitable for wearing next to sensitive skin. Choose a yarn with enough elasticity to help the beanie retain its shape.

Important: Match the specified tension and finished fabric rather than relying only on the yarn weight description. Work a tension swatch before beginning, as a substitute yarn may alter the finished fit, stretch and yarn quantity required.

Customisation Ideas

  • Work the beanie in a classic solid colour for a simple everyday finish.
  • Use a tonal or lightly variegated 4ply yarn for subtle colour variation.
  • Add simple stripes through the stocking stitch section.
  • Make several sizes in coordinating colours as a baby gift set.
  • Add a small pom pom to the crown after finishing.

Care Instructions

Follow the care instructions provided on the yarn label used for the project. Wash gently using a method suitable for the selected fibre and reshape while damp.

Dry flat where recommended to help maintain the crown shaping and overall fit. Store the beanie flat or folded, and ensure it is completely dry before use or storage.
