NEEDLES:

Safety pin
Length of ribbon – 1.5m

TENSION:

7 sts and 10 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 12mm needles.

NOTE:

A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches. Work backwards and forwards in rows, not rounds. Mark right side (knit) of work with a safety pin.

CAPE:

Using 12mm needles, cast on 53 (57-63) sts. Work in stocking st until Cape measures 30 (34-38) cm from beg.

FINISHING

Thread ribbon through stitches without casting off. Gather as desired to fit the neck. Using sewing thread, sew edge stitches to ribbon (or tie the ribbon in a knot). Cut ribbon to desired length. Sew in all ends.

Alternative Yarns

When substituting Lincraft Teddy Soft, choose a yarn that can achieve the pattern tension of 7 sts and 10 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 12mm needles.

Suitable alternatives may include very bulky, super-chunky or plush yarns with a soft handle and enough structure to hold the shape of the cape. Always work a tension swatch before beginning, as different fibres and yarn constructions can affect the finished size, weight and drape.

Important: Match the required tension rather than relying only on the yarn weight description. Adjust needle size if necessary to achieve the specified tension before beginning the cape.

Customisation Ideas

  • Choose a contrasting ribbon colour for a decorative neckline finish.
  • Use a satin, grosgrain or velvet ribbon to create a different look.
  • Work the cape in a neutral shade for everyday wear or a bright colour for a special occasion.
  • Add a decorative brooch or embellishment at the neckline after finishing.
  • Adjust the ribbon length to create either a short bow or longer trailing ties.

Care Instructions

Follow the care instructions provided on the yarn label used for the project. Gently reshape the cape after washing and dry flat where recommended.

Take care with the ribbon during washing. Where necessary, remove or protect delicate ribbon before cleaning. Store the cape folded to help maintain its shape and avoid stretching the neckline.
