- Heirloom 10 Ply Wool — a pure wool 10-ply that matches the gauge closely, giving the pudding good structure and a slightly fuzzy, natural texture.
- Patons Inca 10 Ply (Wool/Alpaca/Acrylic blend) — close in fibre content and weight to the original, with a soft, warm hand that suits a plush little pincushion.
- Any plain 10-ply/Aran-weight wool or wool-blend yarn on 5.50mm needles that knits to roughly 17 sts x 22 rows per 10cm — matching this gauge matters more than the exact brand, since the pudding shape depends on the increases/decreases working out at the stated stitch counts.

A pair of 5.50mm knitting needles.
Requirements

- Lincraft siliconised stuffing premium soft fill.
- White felt.
- Red felt.
- Green felt.

Pudding
Base
Using 5.50mm needles and MC, cast on 7 sts.
Work 2 rows stockinette st.
Cont in st st and inc one st at each end of next 3 rows... 13 sts. Work 3 rows.
Dec one st at each end of next 3 rows... 7 sts.
Cast off purlways.
Side
Using 5.50mm needles and MC, cast on 24 sts.
1st row: * K1, P1, rep from * to end.
Rep 1st row, 3 times.
5th row: * K1, inc purlways in next st, rep from * to end... 36 sts.
6th row: * K2, P1, rep from * to end.
Knit 3 rows garter st.
Cast off knitways.
Top
Using 5.50mm needles and MC, cast on 29 sts.
Work 4 rows stocking st.
5th row: K1, * K2tog, K2, rep from * to end... 22 sts.
6th row: Purl.
7th row: K1, * K2tog, K1, rep from * to end... 15 sts.
8th row: Purl.
9th row: K1, * K2tog, rep from * to end... 8 sts.
Break off yarn, run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.
Finishing
Felt in separate pieces, then seam with whip stitch. Join seam of Top and turn with purl side facing out. Join Top to Side. Join Side seams. Stuff and join Base.
Cut white felt into shape and sew to Top. Cut two leaf shapes from green felt and sew them to the white felt at the centre of the Top. Cut two 3cm diameter circles from red felt. Stitch around edges, stuff and pull stitches tight to gather into a ball shape. Stitch red felt balls together in the middle of the Top.
Sew in all ends.
