Alternative Yarns

When substituting Lincraft Superswash 8ply, Cosy Wool 8ply or DK 8ply, choose a yarn that can achieve the pattern tension of 22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 4.00mm needles.

Suitable alternatives may include other 8ply or DK yarns with a similar fibre composition and finished drape. Always work a tension swatch before beginning the project, as differences in fibre, twist and construction can affect the finished size and appearance of the lace pattern.

Important: Match the required tension rather than relying only on the yarn weight description. Adjust needle size if necessary to achieve the specified tension before beginning the shrug.

Customisation Ideas

  • Choose a tonal or lightly variegated yarn to highlight the lace pattern.
  • Work the shrug in a contrasting colour to create a versatile layering piece.
  • Select a soft wool blend for added warmth or a lighter fibre blend for a more delicate finish.
  • Add a decorative brooch or shawl pin at the front for an optional closure.

Care Instructions

Follow the care instructions provided on the yarn label used for the project. Gently reshape the shrug after washing and dry flat to help maintain the finished measurements and lace pattern.

Avoid hanging the shrug while wet, as this may cause the knitted fabric to stretch. Store folded where possible and take care not to snag the lace pattern.
