Shape the Front Top

  1. Using C2, cast off 3 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
  2. Cast off 5 stitches at the beginning of the following 2 rows.
  3. 32 stitches remain.
  4. Using C1 only, continue in garter stitch for 13cm.
  5. Cast off.

Knit the Back

  1. Using 4mm needles and C1, cast on 46 stitches.
  2. Knit 3 rows garter stitch.
  3. First row is the wrong side.
  4. 4th row: K1, yfwd, K2tog, K7, repeat 4 times, K1.
    Creates buttonholes.
  5. Knit 5 rows garter stitch.
  6. Increase 2 stitches evenly across the last row.
    48 stitches.

Begin Stripe Pattern

  1. Work in stripe pattern until the piece measures approximately 34cm from the beginning.
  2. End with 4 rows in C1.

Shape the Back Top

Work the top section following the same shaping instructions as the front.

Finishing

  1. Match stripes carefully.
  2. Join side seams.
  3. Reverse the seam for the last 6cm for a neater finish.
  4. Fold the garter stitch cuff over.
  5. Mark button positions.
  6. Sew on buttons securely.
  7. Sew in all loose ends.
