Chevron Stitch Pattern:

Using 4.00mm needles and M, cast on 74 sts.

Row 1 (RS): Sl1, knit to end.
Row 2 (WS): Sl1, purl to last st, K1.

NOTE ON CHANGING COLOURS: When alternating between the two yarns, pick the new colour up in front of the old one each time. In doing so the yarn will be carried neatly up along the edge of your work as you knit.

Change to C1,

Row 3: Sl1, *(K2tog) 3 times, (Kfb) 6 times, (K2tog) 3 times; rep from * to last st, K1
Row 4: Sl1, purl to last st, K1.

Repeat rows 1-4 until scarf measures 180cm from the beginning ending with a row 4, working rows 1 & 2 in M and 3 & 4 in C1 always.

Cast off and weave in all ends. Steam and stretch gently into shape.

Alternative Yarns

When substituting Ficio Starburst, choose a yarn with a similar weight, drape and lustre to help recreate the appearance of the original scarf.

Suitable alternatives may include smooth yarns with good stitch definition that allow the chevron shaping to remain clearly visible. Choose two colours with enough contrast to highlight the alternating rows and wave pattern.

Important: Although tension is not important for this project, a different yarn may alter the finished width, length, drape and yarn quantity required. Work a small swatch of the chevron stitch pattern before beginning to check that you are happy with the finished fabric.

Customisation Ideas

  • Choose two high-contrast colours to emphasise the chevron pattern.
  • Use two tonal shades for a softer striped effect.
  • Alternate a solid colour with a lightly variegated yarn for added visual interest.
  • Adjust the finished length by working more or fewer repeats of Rows 1-4.
  • Use metallic or subtly lustrous yarns for an evening or special-occasion finish.

Care Instructions

Follow the care instructions provided on the yarn label used for the project. Gently reshape the scarf after washing and dry flat where recommended.

Take care when steaming the finished scarf and use a method suitable for the selected fibre. Store folded or loosely rolled to help maintain the chevron shape and prevent unnecessary stretching.
