What You Will Need
Materials
- Fleece fabric
- Yarn
Equipment
- Fabric scissors
- Ruler
- Wool needle
- Dressmaker’s marking pencil or chalk, optional
Cut the Shawl
- Measure and cut the fleece to 130 cm × 60 cm.
- Check that the edges are straight and trim away any uneven sections.
Create the Fringe
- At each short end, mark strips measuring approximately 2 cm wide × 4 cm deep.
- Cut along each marked line to create an even fringe.
- Repeat across both short ends of the shawl.
Blanket-Stitch the Edges
- Thread the wool needle with yarn and knot the end securely.
- Work blanket stitch along one long edge of the shawl.
- Keep the stitches evenly spaced and avoid pulling the yarn so tightly that the fleece puckers.
- Repeat along the second long edge.
Finish the Shawl
- Tie off the yarn securely at the end of each stitched edge.
- Weave the loose yarn ends into the stitching.
- Trim any uneven fringe and gently shape the shawl before wearing.
Helpful Tips
Use a ruler when marking the fringe so the strips remain even across both ends.
A thicker yarn creates a bold decorative edge, while a finer yarn gives a more subtle finish.
