How to Make a Framed Card

Create a personalised greeting card featuring a favourite photo and a colourful frame made from painted wooden craft sticks. This easy project is ideal for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthdays or any occasion that calls for a thoughtful handmade keepsake.

The card takes approximately 10 minutes to assemble, excluding painting and drying time.

What You Will Need

Materials

  • Cardstock
  • Paint in your chosen colours
  • 4 wooden craft sticks
  • Printed photograph

Equipment

  • Paintbrush
  • Craft glue

Prepare the Card

  1. Fold a piece of cardstock in half to create the card base.
  2. Position the photograph on the front of the card to check the size and placement.
  3. Trim the photograph if needed, leaving enough space around the edges for the wooden frame.

Decorate the Frame

  1. Paint the four wooden craft sticks in coordinating colours.
  2. Add dots, stripes, hearts, crosses or other simple painted patterns.
  3. Leave the craft sticks flat until the paint is completely dry.

Assemble the Card

  1. Glue the photograph to the front of the cardstock.
  2. Position the four painted craft sticks around the photograph to form a frame.
  3. Glue each craft stick securely in place.
  4. Leave the card flat until all glue has dried.

Add a Personal Message

Write a personal message inside the card once the front is completely dry. The recipient can keep the finished card as a special photo keepsake.

Arrange the photograph and craft sticks before applying glue to make sure everything fits neatly on the card.
