Alternative Yarns

When substituting Makr Baby Soft Print (M) and Makr Baby Soft 8ply (C1), choose soft 8ply yarns that can achieve the pattern tension of 22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm over stocking stitch, using 4.00mm needles.

Suitable alternatives may include soft baby acrylic, merino, wool blends or other smooth baby yarns with enough stitch definition to show the honeycomb cabling clearly. Choose main and contrast yarns with comparable thickness and fibre characteristics so the striped sections remain even.

Important: Match the specified tension and finished fabric rather than relying only on yarn weight labels. Work a generous tension swatch before beginning, particularly across the cable pattern, as a substitute yarn may alter the finished fit, cable definition, raglan shaping and total yarn quantity required.

Customisation Ideas

  • Choose a self-striping or printed yarn for M and a coordinating solid colour for C1.
  • Use contrasting colours to emphasise the honeycomb cable stripes.
  • Choose decorative buttons to personalise the front placket.
  • Follow either the girl or boy buttonhole placement instructions provided in the pattern.
  • Adjust the sleeve length where indicated in the pattern to suit the wearer.

Care Instructions

Follow the care instructions provided on the yarn labels used for the project. Wash gently using a method suitable for the selected fibres and reshape while damp.

Dry flat where recommended to help maintain the honeycomb cabling, raglan shaping and shawl collar. Check all buttons regularly to ensure they remain securely attached, and store the cardigan folded rather than hanging to avoid stretching.
