Please use only the yarn specified. Another yarn is likely to yield different results. Quantities are approximate as knitting styles may vary between knitters. Check the ball bands to ensure all yarn is from the same dye lot.
KNITTING NEEDLES & EQUIPMENT:
A 5.00mm pair of needles.
A 4.00mm pair of needles.
Wool needle for sewing in ends.

BAG
Main Panel:
Using 5.00mm needles, cast on 54 sts using C1.
Row 1: *K1, P1, repeat from * to end.
Row 2: Repeat Row 1
Row 3: *P1, K1, repeat from * to end.
Row 4: Repeat Row 3
Repeat rows 1-4 until piece measures 15cm in length, change ONLY one end to M and continue to work in patt for a further 5cm before changing the remaining end to M as well.
Continue to work in M, repeating pattern, until piece measures 57cm in length. Change ONLY one end to C1 and continue to work in patt for a further 5cm before changing the remaining end to C1 as well.
Work in C1, repeating Rows 1-4 until piece measures 72cm from the beginning.
Cast off and weave in ends
Assembly:
Fold in half with RS facing together and cast on and off edges meeting at the top opening of the bag.
Seam together along the two longer edges using a mattress stitch. Turn RS out.
Steam slightly and stretch into shape, ensuring the edges are as straight as possible.
Handles:
Using 4.00mm needles and two ends of C1, cast on 8 sts.
Row 1 (WS): wyif Sl 1, wyib Sl 1, *P1, wyib Sl 1 repeat from * until 2 sts
remain, P2.
Row 2 (RS): wyib Sl 1, wyif Sl 1, *K1, wyif Sl1, repeat from* across until
there are two sts remaining, K2.
Repeat these two rows until strap measures 65cm from the beginning, cast off. Create one more strap in the same method.
Attach straps to bag by sewing into place, 10cm from either end of the finished bag.
Weave in all ends.

Alternative Yarns
When substituting Makr Cosy Wool, choose a yarn that produces a similarly substantial fabric when held double. A smooth wool, wool blend or durable synthetic yarn of comparable thickness may work well for this project.
As the bag is designed to be worked with two strands held together, test the substitute yarn doubled before beginning. The finished fabric should be firm enough to hold the shape of the tote without becoming excessively stiff or heavy.
Customisation Ideas
- Choose two contrasting colours to emphasise the marled transition sections.
- Use two tonal shades for a more subtle colour change.
- Make the handles in a contrasting colour to the main body of the tote.
- Adjust the handle length before casting off to create shorter carry handles or longer shoulder straps.
- Add a fabric lining to the finished tote for extra structure and to help prevent small items from stretching the knitted fabric.
Care Instructions
Follow the care instructions provided on the yarn label used for the project. Wash gently using a method suitable for the selected fibre and reshape while damp.
Dry flat where recommended to help maintain the tote’s shape. Avoid overloading the bag, as knitted fabric and handles may stretch under excessive weight. Check the handle attachment points regularly and reinforce the stitching if required.
